Paper Town : Book VS. Movie

"Paper Town." I'm pretty sure that everyone knows this name whether because you fall in love with The Fault In Our Stars or you love Cara Delevingne, the hottest super model of this century that makes me question my sexuality whether i'm straight or not( at least for me)!

The book was written by John Green, the writer of The Fault In Our Stars, which made many adults shed their tears for Augustus Water and Hazel Grace love story. And the movie version was direct by Jake Schreier. Anyway, what make the movie version so special are the expectation of the standard of movie from since The Fault In Our Stars's feedback is wonderful! And They even got Cara Delevingne playing the leading role as Margo Roth Spiegelman. HOWEVER, this is also upset so many readers too since, according to the book, Margo supposed to be short and curvy. Now take a look at Cara. She's tall and skinny, which is exactly the opposite of how the readers imagined Margo. So, now let's point out the different between the book and the movie version more.

As most of you already known, Just like other movies adapted from novel, they have to squeeze all the informations and details from 305 pages book in to just couple of hours movie. For example, In the Book, Quentin and Margo have broke in to SeaWorld where two of them dance to the song "Stars Fell on Alabama," but I don't see any sign of SeaWorld in movie at all. Imagine how romantic it could be, the couple dancing to slow jazz music in aquarium. awwwwwwwww. The basic idea of both book and movie are pretty much the same. Quentin Jacobsen the teenage boy who has fallen for his childhood friend, Margo Roth Spiegelman. One day, Margo showed up at Quentin's room window, asked him for little help and claiming that she'll provide him a best night of his life (of course, not in sexual way. I know what you're thinking. haha). They went on the Margo's mission and Quentin seems to enjoyed it, even that he's afraid. On the next couple of days, Quentin's crush had just vanished. Now it is Quentin's mission to be the knight bringing his YOLO princess back. What makes they different is the consideration point that the story try to convey. In the book, it tried to tell that not everything that you see have to be what it looks like. "Everything looks uglier once you look close up." You can see the beautiful light of the city from the distance. But, once you take a closer look at the building, you'll be able to see the crack, the stained and moss. Some people too, like Margo, they can be gorgeous, seems to have a perfect life that no one ever doubt if that person has ever had a bad day just like the rest of the people. They might “shine bright like a diamond” outside, but deep down inside they might feel like “only girl in the world.”(beware of the Rihanna songs references). Meanwhile, what movie told us is to worship our friendship and admire what you are already have. Quentin obsessed with finding Margo that he reckless the love from his friends that always support him and once he found Margo, she just remind him that “how could you possibly fall in love with me when you barely know me.”, so he have to go back alone to prom and reunite with his gang again. Anyway, in the book Margo also have “a thing” for Quentin too, but she decide to stay at “Paper Town, The paper town for the the paper girl.”

Personally, I like the book version more because of it’s consideration point. It is something that people don’t aware of. The “expectation” can actually give pressure to the person too. It is a sensitive topic to reminds people. We can always find the stories about friendship anytime and anywhere. Not to mention that the last chapter in the book is the really romantic, but I’m not going to spoil you. Trust me, read it and you’ll be able to tell the differences.
